Abstract

The ‘jumping genes’ are not such an effective tool in altering the gene expressions of vertebrates for disease cure as compared to their invertebrate counterpart owing to their lack of compatibility that is dependent upon a variety of factors. Though they have shown promising results in curing certain genetic disorders in lower animals and also by altering the diseased protein expression in invertebrates and microbes, their liability to cause mutations in the host cell genome is an element of concern in gene therapy. This article focuses on the roles and interactions of transposons in lower species and vertebrates in a sequential manner thereby highlighting their merits and demerits for the same.

Keywords: Evolutionary Cytogenetics, Gene, Homosporous ferns, jump, Multiple origins of polyploidy ferns, position, evolution
